Kite flier, 27, killed in front of friends and family after 21ft kite dragged him into the air
A 27-year-old kite flier died tragically in front of horrified family and friends after his 21ft-wide kite was picked up by a gust of wind and he then fell 50ft to the ground.
The Bedfordshire man will not be named until a post-mortem tomorrow and his loved-ones who witnessed the tragedy are too distraught to give statements, police said today.
The victim was pronounced dead after an air ambulance was called to the scene on Dunstable Downs, a beauty spot popular with families and walkers.

He then suffered a suspected heart attack in the horrendous accident which is being investigated by Bedfordshire Police.
A spokeswoman for the force said: 'We have been informed that some of the man's friends and family were with him when the accident happened.
'It was a very distressing incident and they have not yet been been asked to give statements.
'The kite had a wing span of 6.5 metres and was not a cheap kite that would be available to buy in a supermarket.
'At this stage we do not know if the kite was being used for sport, such as kite flying, or recreational use.'
It is not known what type of kite the man was flying, but it was likely to have been a kite-surfing canopy capable of lifting a man of his feet.
A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that the casualty was declared dead at the scene despite the efforts of emergency crews.
The spokesman said: 'Crews were called at 1.25pm to reports of a man who had fallen 50ft from the air while flying a kite.

'East of England Ambulance Service and air ambulance crews tried to save him, but he was sadly pronounced dead on scene.
'He was conveyed by land ambulance to the mortuary.'
An inquest into the man's death is expected to be opened and adjourned this week.
Dunstable Downs is a popular recreation site and was the scene of a kite festival a week ago.
A number of internationally famous 'acts' took part in the event, displaying huge kites and performing to music.
